Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the difference between leasing hives and hosting a bee yard?

Hive Leasing (5–20 hives): You pay an annual fee per hive. Perfect for landowners needing an ag exemption, wanting better garden/crop pollination, or simply enjoying bees on their land.

Yard Partnerships (100+ hives): If your property is a strong location, we may place a full bee yard at no cost to you. You provide the land, we provide and care for the bees.

How many hives do I need for an ag exemption?

Most Southeast Texas counties require 5–6 hives minimum for 5 acres, with additional hives added as acreage increases. We’ll confirm your county’s exact requirements and make sure your setup qualifies.

Do I own the bees and equipment?

No — all bees, hives, and equipment belong to Moore Bees. You’re leasing the colonies and we handle their care, health, and maintenance.

What do I need to provide as a landowner?

Just the land and access! You’ll need:

- A safe, open area for the bees

- Year-round access for our team

- No harmful pesticide use near the hives

We handle everything else — delivery, inspections, feeding, treatments, and hive replacement if needed.

What happens if a hive dies?

If a hive dies naturally, we’ll replace it at no cost.

Do you ever move the bees?

Yes, we sometimes move colonies for pollination services. For ag exemption clients, we always leave the minimum number of hives required by your county so you remain in compliance.

Are bees dangerous? What about liability?

Bees generally focus on their work and aren’t aggressive if left alone. That said, stings are possible. Moore Bees carries liability coverage for our operations, but we’re not responsible for injuries to guests or workers on your property.

Can I interact with the bees?

Yes! (WITH OUR GUIDANCE AND SUPERVISION)

We offer Hive Dive experiences where you can suit up with us, open a hive, and see the bees up close. Waivers and safety gear are required.

How much does it cost?

Hive Leasing: Depends on location and services.

Yard Partnerships: Free if your land qualifies for a 100+ hive yard

Why should I host bees on my land?

  • Qualify for ag exemption (saves on property taxes)

  • Improve pollination for gardens, orchards, or crops

  • Support local ecosystems and the future of real Texas honey

  • Enjoy the unique experience of having bees on your property
